Norah has always been drawn to music.
From trumpet, percussion, piano and drums to singing in choir and acapella to performing in church Christmas shows, music has always been a big part of the 17-year-old’s life, and her way to connect with Trinity Lutheran’s faith community.
“I really like being a part of the music at Trinity,” she said. “I’ve always loved how welcoming Trinity is. I think it really started when I joined bells.”
And even as the teen occasionally struggles with her faith, music still offers strength.
“I love Trinity so much, and music is a way I can still discover what my faith is,” she said. “It’s something I’m passionate about.”
Norah’s journey in music has been years in the making.
Now a junior in high school, Norah joined the bell choir while in middle school. It was a bit daunting at first, being with older women who were practically strangers, but now they know her, and she knows them. And her mother, Darcy has joined, too.
“I love all the ladies there. They have the best stories,” Norah said.
Norah also sings with her mom for the Soul Purpose band and with the church choir, and she sings at Trinity’s Lenten services.
“She steps up to the plate almost every time someone asks her to help out,” Darcy said. “She recognizes it’s a strength of hers that she can share at Trinity.”
“Music moves us,” Darcy said. “Some of the songs we sing are incredibly moving.”
“On Eagle’s Wings” and “Thy Word” are two of Norah’s favorites. They give her blasts of nostalgia, taking her back to a simpler time.
In that way, for Norah, the church building is the house, and music will always make it home, wherever life takes her, as she prepares for college, and beyond.
“Trinity will always be a place I go back to,” Norah said.
